Program: DEPARTMENT OF AGING

Agency: CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT ON AGING

Description

Administers programs for older adults, adults with disabilities, caregivers, and residents in long-term care facilities. Offers the following services:

  • Senior Information Line - links older Californians and their caregivers to local information and assistance. Calls are sent to the local Area Agencies on Aging.
  • Long-Term Care Ombudsman Crisis Line (OSLTCO) - 24/7 hotline that receives complaints from residents residing in long-term care facilities and relays requests for local services.
  • HICAP Information Line - offers information on Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program that serves current Medicare beneficiaries.
  • Multipurpose Senior Services (MSSP) - provides both social and health care management services to assist frail individuals aged 60 or older to remain in their own homes
  • Community-Based Adult Services (CBAS) - provides services to older adults with chronic medical, cognitive, or mental health conditions and/or disabilities that are at risk of needing institutional care.
  • Office of the Long-Term Care Patient Representative (OLTCPR) - provides public patient representative for specified residents at skilled nursing and intermediate care facilities statewide to help ensure the resident's rights, preferences, and dignity are supported in medical decision-making.
