Program: ELDERHELP TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM

Agency: VENTURA COUNTY AREA AGENCY ON AGING (VCAAA)

Description

Provides free bus tickets to seniors and people with disabilities. Free bus tickets can be used for non-emergency medical appointments, shopping, errands, and visiting family. Bus tickets are for Fixed Route and Dial-A-Ride programs with the following transportation providers:

  • Ventura County Transportation Commisions (VCTC)
  • Metrolink/Amtrak
  • Gold Coast Transit
  • Simi Valley Transit
  • Thousand Oaks Transit
  • City of Camarillo
  • City of Moorpark
  • Uber

Note: Offers free tickets only. Does not provide transportation services or coordination of services. Must contact transportation providers directly for fixed bus route schedule or to schedule a dial-a-ride appointment.

Eligibility

Must be a Ventura County resident 60 years of age or older living at home in the community (e.g. mobile homes, apartments, houses, etc.). Seniors 85 years of age and older who are living alone or with another frail senior, recently discharged from the hospital, and/or referred by Adult Protective Services (APS) receive priority.

A limited number of bus tickets and Medi-Rides are also available for disabled adults under age 60. These individuals must either provide a copy of their Adults with Disabilities Act (ADA) Card OR the referring agency must certify that the client meets ADA criteria prior to receiving bus tickets or scheduling a Medi- Ride.

EHP (ElderHelp Program) transportation services are targeted to low-income seniors and/or disabled adults without support from family or friends.

NOT ELIGIBLE: Frail seniors and/or disabled adults that require help with activities of daily living such as bathing, shopping, housework, managing medications, etc, employed individuals are not eligible. Individuals residing in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, retirement communities, etc. are ineligible. Individuals already receiving similar services from other agencies are ineligible.
