Offers support services for in-care transitional-age youth, youth who have already aged out, or emancipated from foster care. Services include
- Housing
- Education
- Mentoring
- Self-sufficiency skills
- Basic living skills
- Case management
The Extended Foster Care Program allows youth to stay in foster care until age 21, as long as they meet eligibility requirements. Program is voluntary. Emancipated youth decides if they want to stay in foster care. Anyone interested will need to meet with their social worker or probation officer, go to court, and continue to meet the eligibility requirements.
Eligibility
-Independent Living Program -Youth between 15 to 18 years of age in an open dependency case.
-Extended Foster Care Program(an extension of the Independent Living Program) - At age 18, the youth can decide to remain in foster care until the age of 21. They need to meet eligibility criteria and maintain monthly contact, in-person contact, with their social worker.
Application Process
Call for intake. Youth needs to be in an open case. If youth wants to re-enter, call and ask for the Youth Services Division, and request to speak to the Officer of the Day.
Documents
Case management referral from the ongoing social worker to the YSD Unit.
