Program: YOUTH CRISIS LINE AND SHELTER

Agency: INTERFACE CHILDREN & FAMILY SERVICES (ICFS)

Description

Youth Crisis Line: Provides support to youth (ages 12-24) and their families regarding runaway and homelessness issues, youth beyond parental control, child abuse, school problems, drug concerns, and dysfunctional family relationships.

Services include:

  • Crisis intervention counseling
  • Shelter/Housing assessments
  • Case management
  • Youth specific resource information
  • Family mediation
  • Emancipation information: Assists youth 14 and older with understanding the legal requirements for emancipation by the Court of Ventura County. Helps youth prepare for this process, writes letters to the court confirming emancipation counseling received.
  • Basic needs (hygiene products, clothing, and food)
  • Transportation

Trained staff meet with youth or family at school, police station or other neutral locations.

Youth Shelter: Offers a 21-day youth shelter for up to 6 youth (ages 12-17). Seeks to reunite youth with their families or helps locate appropriate alternative placements. Services include:

  • Shelter stay
  • Case management
  • Youth specific resource information
  • Family mediation
  • Recreational programs
  • Basic needs (hygiene products, clothing, and food)
  • Transportation to and from activities
  • Tutoring services
  • Aftercare services for youth after they leave the shelter

Eligibility

Youth Crisis Line: At risk youth (ages 12-24) and their families. This includes runaways, at risk of homelessness, youth beyond parental control, child abuse, school problems, drug concerns, and dysfunctional family relationships.

Youth Shelter: Runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth from 12-17 years of age in Ventura County and must NOT be a ward of the state or on active probation.
