Program: PREVENTION PROGRAMS

Agency: OWENS VALLEY CAREER DEVELOPMENT CENTER

Description

Offers educational programs and activities that contribute to the development of improved critical thinking, self-esteem, communication, leadership, and life management skills. Services may include but are not limited to:

  • family formation education activities
  • healthy relationship activities
  • alcohol and drug prevention activities
  • life skills activities
  • domestic violence prevention activities
  • family literacy services
  • fatherhood services
  • marriage promotion services
  • parenting education services
  • culturally relevant family formation activities

Other services include:

  • youth employment services
  • work experience
  • job readiness workshops
  • tutoring services
  • youth leadership development
  • pregnancy prevention activities
  • education/career counseling
  • cultural curriculum activities

Eligibility

-Must be a Ventura County resident
-Completed TANF Prevention application on file
-Live within the OCVDC TANF service area
-At least 1 individual in the household must be American Indian/Alaska Native,
-Total household income equal or less than 300% of the federal poverty limit
-At least one household member must meet at least one of the following at risk indicators: Living in a high crime area, single-parent with children, parents that are not high school graduates, living with caretaker relative, previous history with mental health issues or involvement in behavioral health/mental health services, living on or near Reservation or Rancheria lands, previously involved in the juvenile justice system,
attending a low performing school, being a member of a low-income family, having documented learning or academic challenges, homelessness, experiencing substance abuse issues, pregnant/parenting teen, domestic violence survivor.
