Description

Provides free tax filing service to low to moderate income households with household income of $67,000. Tax services will be provided in the following formats:

In Person- Make an appointment by visiting www.MyFreeTaxes.org , calling 211 or texting the word TAXES to 211-211
Drop Off- Drop off required documents in an envelope marked VITA at one of the provided secure mailbox locations. (No longer accepting documents)
Virtually- File through www.GetYourRefund.org/vcunitedway
Self-File- There are no income limits to file for free online on your own. Visit www.MyFreeTaxes.org and click the self-filing option

Eligibility

To be eligible for VITA tax preparation, individuals must:

- Have household income of less than $69,000 in 2025

- Not have any rental income (from properties you own)

- Did not file for bankruptcy in the past year

- Not have any self employment expenses greater than $35,000 and cannot have incurred 1099 contract labor

- If married you must file JOINTLY

Application Process

Visit the website getyourrefund.org/vcunitedway to file the income tax virtually (will need access to smart phone or computer to upload documents) , self-schedule an appointment by visiting myfreetaxes.org or call 211 to schedule an in-person appointment or visit mailbox to drop off required documents

Documents

- Social security card or ITIN for each family member - W2 - Picture ID for taxpayer and spouse, if applicable - All 1099 forms for other income - Form 1095-A for Covered CA (if applicable), for any months receiving coverage - Canceled check or proof of bank account numbers for direct deposit (refund). - 2023 Tax return- pages 1 and 2, and Schedules 1, 2 and 3 if applicable -Childcare provider information: name, address, and Tax ID number (if available) -IP PIN # generated for 2025, if applicable -1098-T and cost of textbook and supplies for education, if applicable
